Born into a large military family and raised as a Navy brat, serving his country was not a matter of if, but a matter of when. It was about being a part of an unspoken family tradition and a duty to country. After high school and a brief attempt at college, it was time to ‘scratch that itch’. In 2005, Nelson left Orlando, FL and enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps as a 0311 Infantry Rifleman.
Assigned to 1/1 Bravo Company stationed at Camp Pendleton, CA, he deployed twice to Iraq as part of the surge and ‘hearts and minds’ effort in Karmah (2006) and Saqlawiyah (2007-2008).
After four years of service, Nelson returned to Orlando to obtain an associate’s degree. In 2010, he entered the world of private security contracting. In 2016, he obtained a B.A. in Security Management and is currently pursuing an IT security related certificate from American Military University.
It is a privilege to be a part of this project because there is a common theme that emerges from these unique individual stories. You, the veteran and your family, are not alone!
Nelson currently resides in Saint Cloud, FL with his beautiful wife, Courtney and their ‘unique’ dog Boots. When he is not deployed, Nelson surrounds himself with family and friends or off to new adventures with the wife.
